There is no doubt that one of the worst hindrances to everyone’s fitness goals is the lack of motivation. The quest to becoming fit is paved by consistency, discipline and dedication – all of which goes down the drain if you don’t have the motivation. If your motivation has taken a slump, you will find yourself doing things such as making excuses not to go to the gym and damning your diet plan by eating just about anything. Without motivation, getting to your fitness goals becomes a massive chore.
It’s a good thing that there are many things that you can do to bring back your motivation spark. Do yourself a favor and keep these tips in mind.
• Look up to others for motivation – head down to YouTube and look up some of the most prominent fitness personas there. For some people, seeing other progress towards their goals is motivation enough. Seeing other people achieving great physiques and killing it in the gym can provide great motivation.
• Set realistic goals – nothing kills motivation more than not having goals. However, there are those that set very lofty goals that it kills their motivation before they even start. If your goal goes like “I want to have six-pack abs”, then you might want to start off with something smaller. Start small and work yourself up.
• Ask yourself why you want to get fit – gaining back your motivation can sometimes mean that you need to go back to your roots. Ask yourself why you’ve started in the first place. Perhaps it was because your clothes don’t fit anymore. Or maybe, you’ve become fed up with running out of breath after some mild physical activities. Bring out your reason to the forefront and it will give you a jolt of motivation.
• Keep it fun – one of the best things that you can do for your fitness motivation is to make sure that you enjoy it. If you’re not happy with your current fitness regimen, drop it and find an activity you like. You can also vary your routine in order to keep it fresh and fun. Additionally, you can try working out with friends and / or signing up with group activities like a spinning class or boot camps. If your routine is mostly composed of running around the treadmill or using an elliptical, then you should really change things up.
